UIC Sets February 2025 Dates for Medicinal Cannabis Symposium, Launches Doco Crowdfund

United in Compassion (UIC) has confirmed that Australia's Medicinal Cannabis Symposium will return in February 2025, with dates now locked in for the event.

Scheduled to align with Medicinal Cannabis Awareness Week, the symposium — which has been running since 2014 — will be held at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane from February 21 to 23, 2025.

In a separate development, UIC co-founder Lucy Haslam has launched a crowdfunding campaign to finance a new documentary series on medicinal cannabis, after a producer reached out to her about the project.

Writing on the campaign's GoFundMe page, Haslam said: "After we spoke, he said 'Lucy this is not a documentary… this is a series of documentaries!'"

According to Haslam, the series is set to examine topics such as drug driving and workplace drug testing, the developing body of science and research around the medicine, its potential to reduce reliance on opiates and benzodiazepines, and how veterans with PTSD are being supported through cannabis treatment.

She said cannabis campaigner Amazon John Easterling and prominent researcher Professor Dedi Meiri are "keen to be involved," and encouraged anyone wishing to receive a project outline for the documentary, or interested in speaking at the Symposium, to get in touch with her by email.

"Help us fund this series of deeply human stories which explores the global cannabis story from a uniquely Australian perspective," she added.

Haslam has previously collaborated with filmmaker and journalist Helen Kapalos on the documentary A Life Of Its Own.
