Filmmaker Jay Richards will attend next week's United in Compassion (UIC) 2025 Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium to shoot footage for his upcoming documentary In Plain Sight.
Richards said the project, supported by UIC co-founder Lucy Haslam, has been "slowly taking shape" — interviews completed last year were used to produce a trailer, and the symposium offers a chance to expand the story being told.
"The storyline is vast, there are many jigsaw pieces we still need to film to present a relevant, complete picture that all Australians can understand, learn from, and be entertained by," he said.
"As a filmmaker, it's a privilege to be telling this story."
Haslam has launched a fundraising campaign and called on industry to help finance the documentary, which carries the tagline "The next big breakthrough in medicinal cannabis could be a movie!"
The production has a funding target of A$200,000, with a planned release later this year.
Richards added: "I'm grateful to the doctors, professors, researchers and patients who have taken their time to contribute truth and experience to the telling of In Plain Sight so far. I look forward to meeting, talking and interviewing [more] over the duration of the symposium."
