Cannabis Politicians Headed to Margaret River as Cape to Cape Event Approaches

Legalise Cannabis WA MP Dr Brian Walker and former federal parliamentary candidate for the party Fiona Patten are set to appear on a panel at this month's Cape to Cape for Cannabis event in Margaret River, where they will speak on the current state of cannabis policy and politics.

Their discussion will span several topics, including the new cannabis bill in WA, upcoming changes to driving laws in NSW, and recent election outcomes in South Australia.

The pair will also reflect on the home cultivation cannabis regulations in the Australian Capital Territory, which have now been in place for five years.

The event will also feature a progress update from Medical Cannabis Research Australia, the organisation hosting the gathering, with a number of prescribers scheduled to present case studies.

Co-organiser Paul Mavor said a volunteer team has been "hard at work" testing the Cape to Cape walking trail ahead of the event.

"This is going to be a really great event with loads of industry networking on offer," he said.

The event runs from April 17 to 20.

Accommodation at Margarets Beach Resort has sold out, though organisers confirmed that other nearby options are still available.

Over the four days, participants will walk guided sections of the Cape to Cape track — approximately three to four hours each day — through one of Australia's most scenic coastal stretches.

An education day is included in the program, featuring prominent Australian clinicians and researchers such as Dr Janet Schloss, Justin Sinclair and Dr Jim Connell.

The session gives healthcare professionals a chance to engage with current clinical insights in a field that continues to evolve at pace.

A range of social events will be held throughout the weekend, beginning with an opening night function in Margaret River, followed by gatherings at winery cellar doors and a beachside venue with live music and food.

All proceeds will go to MCRA's charitable mission of advancing medicinal cannabis research, educating doctors and patients, and broadening access for Australians who need it.
