Legalise Cannabis SA fails to secure parliament seat in 2026 state election

Legalise Cannabis South Australia has not claimed a seat in either house of parliament following the 2026 state election.

With 43% of the Legislative Council vote tallied as of Monday morning, the party had received 2.4% — well below the 8.3% quota needed to secure a seat.

In the House of Assembly, the party attracted 0.9% of the vote, with 98% of booths reporting.

The outcome leaves the party without any elected representatives in South Australia, while affiliated parties retain upper house seats in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.

Labor and Premier Peter Malinauskas won a second term with a substantially enlarged majority, while One Nation recorded more than 21% of the vote — its strongest showing at any state or federal election in Australia since the 1998 Queensland poll.
