Peter Crock Confirmed for Another Term as MCIA Chair

Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA) has reappointed Peter Crock as its chair, following a vote at the organisation's AGM on Wednesday.

Crock, who announced last month that he would be stepping down as CEO of Cann Group, said that despite ongoing difficulties, the previous year had delivered "a number of positive outcomes for the industry across patient access and safety, GMP and compliance".

He added: "Our patient-focused and strategic approach to growth has created expanded opportunities for the industry."

LeafCann CEO Elisabetta Faenza has stepped down from the board, though she will continue contributing to MCIA through the secretariat alongside executive manager Rosemary Richards.

Returning board members are MedReleaf CEO Russell Harding, Bod CEO Jo Patterson, Holmes and Wilson co-founder Patty Holmes, and Epilepsy Action Australia CEO Carol Ireland.

The AGM also included a discussion with representatives from the Office of Drug Control (ODC) on licences, permits, and compliance with the updated TGO 93 rules set to take effect next year.

MCIA described the reforms as "a significant boost for the local Australian medicinal cannabis sector, and for patients".

It added: "MCIA has been a strong advocate for a level playing field to address potential issues of patient safety and to ensure Australian-based companies have a fair opportunity to participate in the industry's growth."

The organisation is currently drafting a white paper on imports for submission to the ODC and the Therapeutic Goods Administration.

MCIA also indicated that ensuring imported products meet GMP and biosecurity requirements is a priority, with work progressing on a biosecurity plan for the sector along with supporting educational resources.
