Germany
The German government has announced that the Federal Office for Agriculture and Food will take on a supervisory role over adult-use cannabis research, which includes regional pilot trials of commercial distribution models.
That responsibility had previously sat with the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM), which will retain oversight of medicinal cannabis research going forward.
Germany's CanG bill, passed earlier this year, permits adults to possess up to 50 grams of cannabis and grow as many as three plants privately for personal consumption. Since July 1, adults have also been able to apply to establish member-based cannabis cultivation associations.
The regional pilot trials are part of the second phase of Germany's broader legalisation framework.
