AFL coaching icon and former player Alastair Clarkson has been confirmed as a keynote speaker at the Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia ACannabis conference, scheduled for March 2024.
Among the most decorated coaches in the sport's history, Clarkson guided Hawthorn to four premierships across the period from 2005 to 2021. He took on the senior coaching role at North Melbourne in 2023, a club where he had also enjoyed a notable playing career.
Clarkson holds firm opinions on the widespread use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and opioids, and draws on his public profile to encourage Australians to speak with their healthcare professionals about medicinal cannabis as a potential treatment option.
He uses the medicine personally to manage back pain and arthritis, and also holds a position on Levin's Health's sports advisory board. At the conference, Clarkson will appear in a live on-stage interview conducted by Levin's managing director Mark Brayshaw, a former AFL footballer and administrator in his own right.
