The newly established Medicinal Cannabis Council Australia (MCCA) has advertised on Seek for its first chief executive, seeking a candidate capable of guiding its strategic, operational and advocacy agenda.
The MCCA — which was created through the merger of the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) and Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA) — published the listing this week. The position is full-time and Sydney-based, though applications from remote candidates will also be considered.
Whoever fills the role will report directly to the board and take responsibility for setting the organisation's strategic direction, building its standing with government and regulatory bodies, and establishing MCCA as the pre-eminent voice on industry policy matters.
Public affairs, policy and advocacy form a central part of the position, with duties including producing submissions and thought leadership materials, tracking regulatory changes, and managing conferences and policy forums.
The MCCA is also seeking a leader who can grow its membership base and deliver programs that address members' regulatory, operational and commercial requirements.
In terms of experience, the advertisement calls for a track record as a CEO, executive director or senior leader within a peak body, not-for-profit or advocacy organisation, as well as demonstrated expertise in public policy or government relations.
