The Medicinal Cannabis Council Australia (MCCA) has announced the seven members who will form its first board of directors.
MCCA was established through the consolidation of two industry groups — Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA) and the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) — and has been operating in a transitional capacity while awaiting the election of a permanent board.
Board members were chosen through a voting process that ran for 24 hours and drew 18 nominees:
Ean Alexander, Phoebe Macleod and Sharon Bentley were elected to industry director positions; Dr Priya Ayyar and Nicholas Ravenswood to healthcare practitioner director roles; Geoff Bloom as independent director; and Lucy Haslam as patient advocate director.
MCCA said the board would convene soon to select a chair and establish its "strategic priorities for the remainder of 2026".
Transitional co-chairs Kristin Viccars and Dr Teresa Nicoletti have both indicated they will not put themselves forward for the chair position.
The organisation is expected to name a full-time chief executive within the next two weeks.
