MCCA launches board director nominations while CEO search draws strong field

The Medicinal Cannabis Council Australia (MCCA) has opened the nomination process for its first-ever board of directors.

Former members of the Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA) and the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) – which merged to form MCCA – are welcome to put their names forward again for board positions.

Nominations close on April 13.

“The board will play a critical role in setting the strategic direction of MCCA, ensuring strong governance and representing the diverse interests of the medicinal cannabis sector across the value chain,” the association said in its call for nominations.

The board will consist of between seven and 10 directors. Of those seats, three are designated for healthcare practitioners, three for industry representatives, two for independent directors, and two for individuals with patient advocacy experience.

MCCA has announced a member webinar on April 29 to provide an update on how the nomination process has progressed.

If the number of nominations received is manageable, the board composition may be announced at the webinar; otherwise, a member vote will be held.

The organisation is also moving forward with its search for a founding chief executive, with the position advertised on SEEK.

The CEO role has generated considerable interest, with approximately 80 applications on file as of Monday this week.

Shortlisted candidates will face interviews conducted by MCCA interim joint chairs Teresa Nicoletti and Kristin Viccars, alongside Little Green Pharma and former MCIA board member Paul Long.
