Nimbin will host its annual cannabis law reform festival MardiGrass this weekend, with Legalise Cannabis and Greens senators among the headline guests set to attend.
MardiGrass organiser Michael Balderstone said: “There’s quite a lot of excitement over getting Legalise Cannabis MP Jeremy Buckingham elected in NSW and we plan on doing our own coronation with him [this] weekend.”
One of the centrepieces of this year’s program is a “senators’ learning circle”, giving parliamentarians the opportunity to hear directly from farmers and producers while working through strategy and tactics for cannabis reform.
Also on the guest list is Dr Karen Hitchcock, one of Australia’s first authorised prescribers of medicinal cannabis and a judge at this year’s The Cannabis Observer Awards.
Jason Gann, the ganjapreneur behind Wilfred the Stoner Dog, is also expected to attend alongside musicians, comedians and other performers, while competitors will once again go head-to-head in the annual Hemp Olympix.
Balderstone added: “It’s hard to believe we are still labelled as criminals as much as ever. Please come and find out for yourself why ending the drug war is so important to saving the planet and ourselves.”
