Charlotte's Web Co-Founders Headed to Brisbane for Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium

Two of the most recognised figures in medicinal cannabis — the co-founders of CBD medicine Charlotte's Web — will travel to Brisbane in August to speak at the United in Compassion (UIC) Symposium.

Joel and Jesse Stanley played a central role in investigating the therapeutic potential of CBD and other non-THC cannabinoids before establishing Charlotte's Web, a medicine named after Charlotte Figi, a young girl who suffered from catastrophic epilepsy.

The announcement of their appearance comes as early-bird registration for the event closes on June 30.

Charlotte's story, along with the work of Joel, Jesse, and their five brothers, drew global attention in 2013. Their efforts are widely credited with shifting public attitudes toward cannabis, spurring research activity, and driving regulatory reform.

UIC founder and director Lucy Haslam said she was "ecstatic" the brothers will attend the symposium.

"These guys are all that is great about the role of cannabis suppliers who actually deliver for their patients," she said. "Having Jesse and Joel here will serve as a huge reminder as to why we actually have a medicinal cannabis industry."

Even as demand for their CBD medicine grew rapidly, the Stanley brothers continued distributing their tincture free of charge to thousands of patients through the non-profit The Realm of Caring, with many families relocating to Colorado specifically to access it.

When production approached its limits, the brothers transitioned their mission into a commercial operation, and in 2014, Charlotte's Web the company was established.

Joel is currently chief executive of AJNA BioSciences, which is working towards developing the world's first FDA-approved full-spectrum botanical psychedelic drug and other plant medicines to address mental health and neurological disorders.

Jesse, meanwhile, as chief executive of Stanley Brothers USA, is focused on the beneficial uses of the whole cannabis plant, with all cannabinoids, flavonoids, and terpenes working together with other functional botanicals for targeted wellness outcomes.

The symposium runs at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre from August 11 to 13, with early-bird tickets available until the end of the month.

A A$100 discount on a three-day, non-member pass ($990 until June 30 and $1,235 from July 1) is available by entering the code at the time of booking.
