Cross-Party Parliamentary Friends of Medicinal Cannabis Group Relaunches with 31 Members

A newly formed Parliamentary Friends of Medicinal Cannabis Group (PFMCG) has been established in Canberra, reviving a body that was wound up ahead of last year's federal election.

Labor senator Anne Urquhart and Liberal MP Warren Entsch – both participants in the previous PFMCG – are serving as co-convenors of the reconstituted group, which is scheduled to hold its first meeting in May.

The Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) has been brought in to assist with shaping the meeting agenda.

Thirty-one MPs have joined the group so far, among them assistant minister for health and aged care Ged Kearney, One Nation leader Pauline Hanson, and Greens senator and justice spokesperson David Shoebridge.

From left: AMCA board members Justin Sinclair, Teresa Nicoletti and Lucy Haslam met with Labor senator and new PFMCG co-convenor Anne Urquhart and minister for health and aged care Mark Butler in November last year.

The membership spans 17 lower house representatives and 14 senators, with 19 Labor members, three Liberals, three Greens, two Nationals, two from One Nation, one independent, and one representative from the Jacqui Lambie Network.
