Cannabis Firms Move to Defend Federal Rescheduling Effort in Court, Plus State and Global Roundup

Two medical marijuana companies have asked to intervene in pending lawsuits against the Trump administration's push to reschedule cannabis, arguing they would face direct economic, regulatory and operational damage if the challenges succeed in stalling reform.

In Congress, Reps. Morgan Luttrell (R-TX), Lou Correa (D-CA), Jack Bergman (R-MI) and Michael McCaul (R-TX) introduced the IBOGAINE Act, meant to write President Donald Trump's psychedelics executive order into federal law alongside additional policy changes. Separately, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL) posted about marijuana banking legislation.

An op-ed for The Cannabis Observer by attorneys Brett Schuman and Adam Horowitz of Goodwin Procter LLP contends that the DEA limiting its rescheduling hearing to opponents could actually help reform survive legal scrutiny: "DEA may be structuring the hearing to best withstand the inevitable legal challenges if the administrative law judge's recommendation is to move cannabis from Schedule I to Schedule III."

At the state level, Delaware's legislature overrode Gov. Matt Meyer's veto of a bill curbing restrictive county zoning against marijuana businesses. Georgia's expanded medical cannabis law took effect, adding qualifying conditions, permitting flower vaping, and revising THC limits. Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen approved medical cannabis rules a day after the attorney general's sign-off. Hawaii regulators face a federal suit over newly enforced hemp restrictions. Pennsylvania's House minority leader said budget talks on legalization have "fallen off." Oregon is merging oversight of medical cannabis and psilocybin programs. Rhode Island State Police face accusations of using false evidence in a cannabis probe. Michigan issued a disciplinary-action report, Oklahoma launched a lab quality-assurance website, and a judge blocked Haledon, New Jersey officials from obstructing a dispensary's opening.

Globally, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime's World Drug Report criticized nations' cannabis reforms, while an Isle of Man lawmaker questioned medical cannabis revenue. New research found cannabigerol and cannabichromene trigger lung cancer cell death, and a case report backed THC/CBD oils for palliative care in horses. Flowhub launched an AI-integration tool for retailers.
