Frank and Vince Pappalardo have been community pharmacists in Cairns for decades, placing patient needs at the centre of their work from the very start — an approach that has shaped everything from their pharmacy chain to their latest venture, WholeLife Botanicals.
Grounded in Community Care
Where most medicinal cannabis companies start with a product, WholeLife Botanicals started with its patients and a clear intention to better serve them.
The Pappalardo brothers have operated as community pharmacists in Cairns since the early 2000s. As the years passed, their patients started raising broader questions — not simply about their prescriptions, but about managing long-term health, prevention and alternatives to conventional treatment pathways. Rather than deflecting these conversations, Frank and Vince engaged with them directly.
In 2011, they extended their Pease Street pharmacy to include a dedicated space for integrated health services, bringing naturopathy, nutrition and lifestyle products together with traditional pharmacy dispensing. The model evolved over years, shaped by patient feedback and shifts in the broader healthcare environment.
By 2017, that model had become WholeLife Pharmacy & Healthfoods — now Australia’s leading pharmacy and health food retail brand, with stores spread across the country.
As WholeLife expanded, Frank and Vince’s ambition to provide more integrated care for their patients grew with it. Recognising the need for a clinical environment where conventional medicine and evidence-based natural therapies could work side by side, they founded One Health Clinics, now active across five Queensland locations including Cairns, Brisbane and the Sunshine Coast.
General practitioners and nurses work alongside allied health practitioners who share the belief that genuine wellness comes from treating the whole person rather than individual conditions in isolation. One Health Clinics encourages patients to take an active, informed role in their own care, with personalised treatment focused on long-term outcomes rather than short-term relief.
A Gap in Medicinal Cannabis Access
As medicinal cannabis prescribing grew across Australia, a particular problem came into focus from within the WholeLife network. Operating out of Cairns, Frank and Vince observed that patients in regional Queensland — already dealing with fewer healthcare resources than their counterparts in major cities — were running into extra obstacles when trying to access medicinal cannabis.
Those obstacles included unreliable product supply and inconsistent quality, a lack of clinical education around dosing and delivery formats, and pricing that put sustained treatment out of reach for many patients.

For a pharmacy group whose core philosophy had always centred on access and clinical accountability, this gap could not be overlooked.
WholeLife Botanicals was created in direct response to these market observations. An Australian-owned, Queensland-based medicinal cannabis brand, it applies the same standards guiding the group’s pharmacy and clinic operations — accessibility, accountability, quality and affordability.
The brand is centred on supporting patient needs and delivering a high-quality medicinal cannabis offering.
How This Works in Practice
Prescribers and pharmacists working in the medicinal cannabis space are well acquainted with its practical difficulties. Product quality and labelling vary considerably between suppliers. Patients often have limited understanding of dosing, delivery formats and realistic treatment expectations. In a sector that has expanded quickly, commercial pressures frequently outrun clinical considerations.
WholeLife Botanicals provides patients with affordable, consistent and accessible medicinal cannabis, held to the same clinical accountability and ethical standards that have defined the WholeLife pharmacy brand since its founding.
On the supply side, products are quality-assured through verified sourcing, Good Agricultural and Collection Practices (GACP), and batch testing for potency and purity — giving patients managing chronic conditions protection against the substitution, variability or supply interruptions that can disrupt ongoing treatment.
Clinical support is equally important to the brand. Drawing on decades of integrative medicine experience, WholeLife Botanicals gives prescribers and pharmacists practical guidance on product selection, dosing and follow-up protocols — the kind of support that makes a meaningful difference to patient outcomes in a therapeutically complex area.
Underlying all of this is a pricing commitment that makes ongoing treatment viable, not merely accessible at the outset. Patient education materials, developed with clinical input, help support informed decision-making and improve long-term adherence.
A Network Built Entirely Around the Patient
Together, WholeLife Pharmacy & Healthfoods, One Health Clinics, and WholeLife Botanicals form a connected healthcare network, one built on the conviction the Pappalardos have carried since their earliest days behind the pharmacy counter in Cairns — that healthcare works best when it is accessible, integrated and oriented around the whole person.

For healthcare professionals working in the medicinal cannabis space, WholeLife Botanicals is part of a healthcare group that has spent decades demonstrating what patient-centred, community-embedded care actually looks like in practice.
With Australian ownership, decades of experience across pharmacy and integrative medicine, and a commitment to consistent, quality-assured products, WholeLife Botanicals is a long-term partner healthcare practitioners can count on — for their patients and for their practice.
