Ecofibre cuts ties with chief science officer as US legal dispute escalates

Ecofibre has confirmed the immediate dismissal of chief science officer and EOF-Bio chief operating officer Dr Alex Capano.

Earlier this month the company said it would "vigorously defend" a lawsuit brought by Capano, who alleged that senior executives had prioritised their own interests and those of the parent company over its EOF-Bio subsidiary.

Capano filed proceedings in Delaware, in the United States, claiming that several board directors held "conflicted" positions within the organisation.

Ecofibre established EOF-Bio in mid-2023 to commercialise patents for treatments targeting endometriosis and ovarian cancer, co-developed with the University of Newcastle. Capano, who had served as the company's chief science officer for the preceding five years, was appointed to lead the subsidiary.

Court documents allege she was placed on "administrative leave" earlier this year, shortly after "all EOF employees except Capano were fired".

Ecofibre disclosed her termination to the ASX this morning.
