Free Webinar Set to Tackle Medicinal Cannabis and Overlooked Women's Health Issues

Doctors and other clinicians are being encouraged to sign up for an upcoming online session examining how medicinal cannabis might play a role in an area of medicine organisers describe as long neglected: women's health.

During the 60-minute presentation, Dr Orit Holtzman, one of Australia's best-known prescribers of medicinal cannabis, will walk attendees through the present state of women's health care, the symptoms clinicians most commonly encounter, and the practical factors involved in weighing up cannabinoid-based treatments.

Aimed specifically at Australian health professionals, the event has been put together by Medical Cannabis Australia together with Dr Holtzman, and is scheduled for 7pm Sydney time on July 23.

Sharon Bentley, co-founder of MCA, said the session is intended to shine a light on a part of health care that doesn't always get the attention it deserves.

“Women’s health has too often been under-researched, underfunded and under-discussed, despite the significant impact conditions such as PMS, endometriosis, pelvic pain, perimenopause and menopause can have on daily life and wellbeing,” she said.

“The intersection of women’s health and medicinal cannabis is an emerging area that deserves informed, evidence-based education.

“This webinar aims to support Australian healthcare professionals with practical knowledge, current treatment considerations and a stronger foundation for patient-centred conversations.”

Topics on the agenda include relevant clinical indications and symptom patterns, the basics of prescribing medicinal cannabis, and other hands-on considerations for practitioners.
