Vitura Health has brought nicotine vaping products (NVPs) onto its CanView distribution platform as part of a broader push to grow its medicine offerings beyond cannabis.
The move into NVPs comes on the heels of a government campaign targeting disposable and non-prescription vapes in an effort to combat nicotine addiction among children.
As of January 1, the Department of Health has prohibited the importation of single-use, non-prescription vapes, and all doctors and nurse practitioners are now permitted to prescribe NVPs as a smoking cessation aid without needing prior Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) approval.
These regulatory shifts are anticipated to drive an increase in the volume of NVP prescriptions written by GPs.
Vitura said it has entered into exclusive agreements with several suppliers that currently offer prescription-only NVPs to the Australian market.
Chief executive Rodney Cocks called the new product vertical "another milestone" for the company.
"We applaud the TGA for the changes that have been implemented with respect to all vaping products and we look forward to supporting patients in their journey to quit smoking and reduce their dependency on nicotine," he said.
