Uber Eats Rolls Out Cannabis Home Delivery in Toronto Through Leafly Partnership

Uber Eats has partnered with US-based marketplace Leafly to begin delivering cannabis directly to customers in Toronto, Canada.

The food ordering and delivery platform said the initiative is a world first for "a major third-party delivery platform".

Ontario residents have been able to order cannabis through Uber Eats since November 2021, though until now the service only supported in-store pickup.

Customers aged 19 and over can now browse products and complete purchases through the app, with orders fulfilled by one of three licensed local retailers — Hidden Leaf, Minerva, and Shivaa's Rose.

After a retailer confirms an order, one of its licensed budtenders handles the delivery and is required to check the customer's age and sobriety level before completing the handover.

Uber Eats said the service is intended to draw customers away from the illicit market and reduce the number of impaired drivers on the road.

Although recreational cannabis is legal in 19 US states, the company said it has no current plans to extend the delivery service across the border.
