Tasmania's government is inviting public feedback on a set of proposed amendments to the state's industrial hemp regulatory framework.
The Department of Natural Resources and Environment Tasmania has opened a consultation period, calling for submissions on the draft Industrial Hemp Amendment Bill 2023.
The proposed legislation would introduce a series of changes to both the Industrial Hemp Act 2015 and the Industrial Hemp Amendment Regulations 2016.
Among its goals, the bill seeks to encourage industry growth by explicitly including horticultural use as a recognised licence purpose, reduce duplication within existing regulations, close regulatory gaps, and improve transparency, efficiency, clarity, and consistency with current legislation.
The full text of the draft bill is available to read here. The deadline for submissions is October 25.
