Medicinal cannabis clinic Dispensed is under regulatory investigation following allegations it inappropriately prescribed cannabis to a patient who subsequently died by suicide.
The ABC reported that the patient had experienced auditory hallucinations and was taking antipsychotic medication at the time he received a medicinal cannabis prescription through the clinic.
His father said the patient's regular GP and psychiatrist had no knowledge of the cannabis prescription obtained through Dispensed.
It was previously reported that Dispensed co-founder Adam Younes had been prohibited from dispensing schedule 8 medications, and that two doctors at the clinic had also been suspended.
No reasons were given for those actions at the time.
The ABC said regulators are examining two cases of inappropriate prescribing, one of which involves the patient who died by suicide.
The broadcaster's investigation found that Dispensed continued to send medicinal cannabis to the man's address even after his parents notified the clinic of his death.
The investigation also alleged that a separate Dispensed patient was sold medicinal cannabis on multiple occasions despite repeated warnings from his mother that her son had schizophrenia and faced a risk of psychosis.
The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) had previously confirmed that conditions were placed on Younes' licence through its immediate action powers. It has since confirmed that two doctors employed by Dispensed also had their ability to practise suspended.
When the ABC put a series of questions to Dispensed about its patients and practices, the clinic declined to answer, citing "privacy and confidentiality obligations".
Dispensed also stated that it rejected the ABC's allegations concerning its conduct.
In the wake of these events, some Dispensed patients have taken to online forums to report having their prescriptions cancelled after disclosing they were on antipsychotics, or had histories of psychosis, suicidal ideation, or illicit drug dependence.
Dispensed did not respond to questions about whether any internal reviews had been conducted.
Younes and Dispensed have been contacted independently for comment.
