Pro-Cannabis Activists Set to Have Opera House Projection Charges Dismissed

Two activists who beamed pro-cannabis imagery onto the Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge are expected to have their criminal charges dropped tomorrow, nearly two years after the projection stunt took place.

Alec Zammitt and Will Stolk, who have built a reputation for staging attention-grabbing pro-cannabis demonstrations, said they have been informed the charges will be formally withdrawn at a court appearance tomorrow.

The pair will appear at Sydney Downing Centre Local Court, where their legal representatives are expected to apply for a costs order following the formal discontinuation of proceedings.

Zammitt and Stolk said they have spent A$15,000 defending themselves against the alleged offences since first being charged. They expressed gratitude to lawyers at Sydney Criminal Lawyers for their representation throughout the case.

The duo, who operate under the banner 'who are we hurting?', were arrested and charged on April 20 2022 from a room at the Park Hyatt hotel, which has direct views of both the Opera House and Harbour Bridge.

Using high-powered laser projectors, Zammitt and Stolk displayed pro-cannabis messages across both landmarks. They faced several counts of distributing advertisements, to which they pleaded not guilty.

Each charge carried a maximum penalty of a $1,100 fine.

Legalise Cannabis MP Jeremy Buckingham is also expected to attend tomorrow's hearing.
