Kristin Viccars, interim managing director of MedReleaf Australia, has been appointed to the board of Medicinal Cannabis Industry Australia (MCIA).
Viccars takes the seat previously held by Russell Harding, the founding MCIA board member and former MedReleaf CEO who stepped down following the company's acquisition by Aurora Cannabis in February.
Viccars brings over 15 years of experience across a wide range of industries and business environments, both in Australia and internationally. He holds an executive MBA and a graduate diploma in business law.
He said: "I am honoured to be provided the opportunity to contribute to the growth and progress of the cannabis industry in Australia by joining the MCIA board and collaborating with this esteemed group. Thank you to the MCIA for welcoming me."
Harding added: "Having known Kristin for many years, appointing him to the COO role at MedReleaf Australia where his endeavours had an immediate impact, I am delighted that MCIA has accepted him as my replacement on the board of this critically important organisation at this challenging period in our industry."
MCIA chair Peter Koetsier also took the occasion to acknowledge Harding's tenure: "The board would like to extend its heartfelt thanks to Russell for his contribution to MCIA over the past six years [and] wishes [him] all the best as he focuses on the next stages."
The MCIA recently opened nominations to grow its board membership and is currently working through the applications received.
