UIC to Debut Pharmacist-Focused Medicinal Cannabis Training at August Symposium

A medicinal cannabis education and training program designed specifically for pharmacists is set to debut at the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium in August.

The course is believed to be among the first of its kind in Australia to target pharmacists with cannabis-specific training.

It will be offered through TEACH-hub, which stands for Training and Education about Cannabis in Healthcare — an online portal created by United in Compassion (UIC), the Australian Medicinal Cannabis Association (AMCA) and the Society of Cannabis Clinicians Australian Chapter (SCCAC).

The curriculum will cover foundational topics in medicinal cannabis as it relates to pharmacy practice, including the endocannabinoid system, case studies, current research, dispensing procedures and a module reviewing relevant cannabis legislation.

Plans are in place to make the course available online soon after the symposium concludes.

The training was put together by a group of industry professionals, including Lambert Initiative clinical trials co-ordinator Zeeta Bawa, Sydney University Pharmacy School professor Andrew McLachlan, associate professor and cannabis prescriber Vicki Kotsirilos and Astrid Pharmacy founder Lisa Nguyen.

The Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium will be held in Brisbane in August, spanning three days of networking, education and training sessions.
