Legalise Cannabis Victoria eyes stronger showing than WA with broad candidate field

Legalise Cannabis Victoria (LCV) is targeting a result that surpasses Legalise Cannabis WA's 2021 performance as Victorians prepare to head to the polls later this month.

The party has fielded candidates across all legislative council regions as well as three legislative assembly seats, with party secretary Craig Ellis arguing that cannabis legalisation has moved firmly into the mainstream of political debate.

He said: "The major parties like to imagine that cannabis is a fringe issue, but there's around two million Victorians who have consumed it in their lifetime and more than 600,000 in the last 12 months.

"In the 2022 West Australian election, with a similar voting system, Legalise Cannabis WA secured two upper house seats. We plan to better that in Victoria.

"LCV is delighted with the rich diversity of experience and talent in our candidates standing for election."

LCV’s candidate in Western Metropolitan, David Ettershank

Among LCV's 16 legislative council candidates are Thomas Forrest (Eastern Victoria), Marc Selan (Southern Metropolitan), Rachel Payne (South East Metropolitan), Adam Miller (Northern Victoria), Andrew Hale (Northern Metropolitan), Nicholas Wallis (North-Eastern Metropolitan), David Ettershank (Western Metropolitan) and Andrew Dowling (Western Victoria).

The party's three legislative assembly contenders are Wayne Taylor (Bendigo West), Elissa Smith (Pakenham) and Ashley Heap (Bayswater).

Polls open on Saturday November 26.
