Lambert Initiative Moves to Create Australasian Cannabinoid Research Society at UIC Symposium

The Lambert Initiative is working to establish a regional umbrella organisation for Australasia that would facilitate the sharing of scientific data and accelerate the development of medicinal cannabis across the region.

Provisionally named the Australasian Society for Cannabinoid Research, the proposed group is planning its inaugural meeting to coincide with United in Compassion's Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium, scheduled for Brisbane in August.

The Lambert Initiative will host a dedicated research and academic program on the first day of the symposium.

Professor of cannabinoid pharmacology and deputy academic director at the Lambert Initiative Jonathon Arnold said: "It is crucial for medicinal cannabis to advance based on rigorous scientific evidence.

"Cannabis science is increasingly being addressed by researchers in our region, however, there is no independent scientific society to share knowledge and innovation.

"We hope to establish a new society that will meet yearly to share scientific data to help propel medicinal cannabis forward in Australasia."
