United in Compassion (UIC) co-founder Lucy Haslam is appealing to the medicinal cannabis industry for financial backing to produce a sequel to the widely praised documentary A Life of its Own.
Haslam originally conceived the film alongside her son Dan and award-winning documentary filmmaker and journalist Helen Kapalos in 2014, at a time when medicinal cannabis remained illegal and Dan — who later died from bowel cancer at just 25 years of age — was unable to access it.
According to Haslam, the film, which remains available on Netflix, played a pivotal role in sparking public debate around medicinal cannabis in Australia.
She added: "We would like to make a sequel but need some help to raise the funds… so I am reaching out to ask you to help by making a donation. Or if that is not possible, please help us share the appeal on your social media and among your contacts."
The fundraising target is set at A$250,000, with the goal of completing the film in time to premiere at the next UIC Australian Medicinal Cannabis Symposium.
