George Polimenakos, who previously served as general manager for Tilray Australia and New Zealand, has taken on the top role at Beacon Medical Australia following a short contract position at Arrotex Pharmaceuticals that lasted just four months.
Polimenakos shared the announcement on LinkedIn, having spent over four years with Tilray ANZ across a range of roles — beginning as MSL and marketing manager, advancing to business director in July 2019, and then to general manager medical in December 2020.
He left Tilray in February of this year as the company underwent a global restructure, after which he took on a contract role with Arrotex as regional sales manager covering NSW, South Australia, and WA.
Polimenakos steps into the Beacon role at a pivotal moment for the company, which is now operating under new ownership following MediPharm Labs' completed acquisition of Beacon's parent company, Vivo Cannabis.
"I was approached by the Medipharm executives as they needed someone with both local and international experience to lead their Beacon business locally and launch their new GMP oral solutions and inhalation cartridges in Australia," he said.
He noted that the new product portfolio, which extends Beacon's existing dried flower range, will give doctors access to a wider variety of formulations.
The company plans to build out a national MSL team over the coming six months to support the product launches.
