The Legalise Cannabis Party (LCP) has selected former Greens MP Jeremy Buckingham as its lead candidate for the Legislative Council (upper house) in the forthcoming New South Wales state election.
Buckingham was an MP in the NSW upper house from 2011 to 2019 and has a record of successful activism and advocacy on environmental and social issues.

He said he would be happy to work with the Greens to pass cannabis law reform if elected.
LCP's other confirmed candidate for the Legislative Council is former Australian Idol host James Mathison.
Meanwhile, in the lower house, it will run candidates in Monaro (Josie Tanson), Tweed (Marc Selan) and Clarence (Mark Rayner) with others still to be confirmed.
The party is hopeful it can match WA and Victoria in getting two MPs elected when voters go to the polls on March 25.
