Layton Mills, the former chief executive of AusCann, has been appointed to the board of MGC Pharma as a non-executive director.
Mills founded CanPal Animal Therapeutics, a company he sold to AusCann in November 2020 for A$17.5 million. He took on the group CEO position the following year.
However, challenging financial conditions led to CanPal being effectively shelved, and AusCann ultimately transferred 52% of the business back to Mills earlier this year. He had already departed the CEO role and appeared as a contestant on the TV reality series Married at First Sight earlier this year.
Mills is also the founder and managing director of Subgenix Lifesciences, an early-stage biotech focused on applying psychedelic compounds to treat rare and underserved health conditions.
MGC said Mills will bring his "significant experience across human and animal health in pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare".
The company said last week it was reshaping its board and UK advisory team as part of a shift away from medicinal cannabis toward a broader pharmaceutical-focused direction.
