Biortica Agrimed is planning a major uplift in cultivation capacity at its Green Farmers sites in Victoria and New South Wales throughout 2025.
The company's existing 4,000sqm Victorian facility is set to receive an additional 6,000sqm by March, while a retrofit of its 10,000sqm site near Lismore, NSW, is expected to come online by September.
Biortica said the expansion "ensures year-round production through advanced glasshouse technology, eliminating delays caused by international shipments and complex import permits".
Chief operating officer Kathleen Ward added: "Green Farmers' expansion reflects our dedication to improving local supply chains, enhancing product availability, and supporting the Australian medicinal cannabis industry."
The announcement follows statements from Legalise Cannabis Queensland and the Medical Cannabis Users Association, which said supply chain disruptions, inadequate stock and poor planning left pharmacies unable to fill medicinal cannabis prescriptions over the holiday period.
Managing director Tom Varga said the expansion would deliver fresher product and greater reliability for Australian patients, while also generating local employment at a challenging time for the broader economy.
"Over 150 jobs will be created across both expansions," he said. "Add to this locally sourced product not being impacted by increasing freight costs and the falling dollar and you have better patient access, protection from rising costs and job creation in Australia."
Biortica is currently in the process of a reverse takeover via a deed of company arrangement (DOCA) of ASX-listed Bod Science, which the company said will broaden its access to capital for future growth.
